"Is It Getting Hot in Here?  Community Conversation on Energy Policy"
AKA
"The Burning Question: How do We Solve Our Energy Problem?"

What Do You Think? Downloadable energy problems issue guide from the National Issues Forums

Resource List for Adults

Resource List for Kids

At Issue: America’s way of life seems threatened by unstable sources of energy, while many see growing evidence of environmental damage. As demands for energy escalate, both in this country and in rapidly developing nations, we may soon reach a point of no return. It is time to face the difficult choices that must be made to ensure a sustainable future.

Join in an evening of conversation with your fellow citizens about what we as a nation should do to solve our energy problem. You’ll spend most of the evening working in small groups, led by a trained moderator, considering three different ways to approach the issue. The approaches include: reduce our dependence on foreign energy; get out of the fossil-fuel predicament; and reduce our demand for energy.

The results of your conversation will be included with hundreds of others around the country in a report produced by the National Issues Forums.

When: 6-8:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007 (6-6:30 p.m. refreshments; 6:30-8:30 p.m. discussion)

Where: Central Resource Library, 9875 W. 87th Street, Overland Park, KS

RSVP: Those who register will receive their discussion guide in advance. Registration is full. Thanks for your interest! Check back at www.jocolibrary.org/issues for future Community Issues Forums.

Who: The forum is sponsored by KC Science INC, a partnership of KCPT Public Television, Johnson County Library, Science City at Union Station, Pathfinder Science and Science Pioneers, focused on promoting science-related events, encouraging interest in science, advocating for science-based careers and inspiring natural curiosity throughout the community. Moderators are provided by Consensus and its KC Forums project.
